Senior Human Resources Generalist

The Council for Christian College and Universities (CCCU) seeks a Senior Human Resources Generalist to administer the organization’s Human Resources function. The Senior Human Resources Generalist is responsible for the initiation, development, and continuation/implementation of all aspects of human resources, including recruitment, employee relations, compensation and benefits, performance management, policies and procedures, and supporting organizational culture.  This position will report to the Senior Vice President, Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The Senior Human Resources Generalist is an human resources department of one, partnering closely with the CFO, Chief of Staff and Controller.

The CCCU is a global organization currently made up of 30+ employees located in two countries (United States and United Kingdom) and in eight states (AZ, DC, KY, MD, MI, NC, OR, TN). This position offers the option for a hybrid work schedule. Based in our Washington, DC headquarters with the option to work up to two days remotely with approval of their supervisor (Monday and/or Friday). Candidates must be able to work effectively in both an in-person and remote environment. We have an ambitious mission.   • Grounded in the Christian faith tradition

  • Credentialed and experienced HR management experience
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective at the strategic and day-to-day level management of HR functions
  • Experience/understanding of employment law in two or more of the locations/jurisdictions listed above

  • Great coach and encourager of people and managers

Core Responsibilities:
The Senior Human Resources Generalist provides pro-active responses dealing with the administration of human resource issues. Responsible for the initiation, planning, development, continuation and implementation of all aspects of human resources, including recruitment, compensation, benefits, performance management, employee relations, policies and procedures, and organizational culture. Core responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Human Resources Management:
  • Develop, recommend, and implement HR policies and procedures; prepare and maintain handbook of policies and procedures that bolsters organizational culture and expectations; and maintain compliance with all local and federal laws
  • Administer the benefits program including recommendation of appropriate changes; annual re-evaluation of benefits plan for cost effectiveness, manage relationships with benefits broker, and approval of invoices for payment
  • Lead efforts to recruit for all open positions including all U.S. and international locations which includes working with hiring manager to create job announcement, plan and manage search process and timeline, advise and coach staff on interviewing best practices and procedures, and planning the orientation program for new employees
  • Organize and facilitate staff activities and other retention efforts
  • Coach and consult with managers on a broad range of HR areas from workforce planning, performance management, employee relations, leadership development, etc.
  • Compile, review and approve semi-monthly payroll and retirement contributions for U.S. staff as well as review monthly payroll for CCCU-UK processed by UK Operations, Finance and Properties Administrator
  • Ensure that organizational charts are up-to-date including confidential salary documents and other HR material
  • Develop and implement appropriate staff development and training programs and conduct training sessions or work with third-party provider(s) as necessary
  • Manage employee relations matters, with supervisors, to ensure compliance with policies and employment law
  • Serve as staff liaison to Human Resource professionals from member institutions by facilitating monthly calls and working with conference team, if and as needed, to build out programming for HR professionals at CCCU events
  • Develop and manage Human Resources budget in consultation with CFO
  • Review and recommend updates to compensation program, when necessary, to ensure that appropriate compensation is matched to each job in consultation with supervisor
  • Administer and monitor annual performance evaluation program and revises as necessary
Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Persons applying for the position should:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources/Industrial Organizational Psychology/Business or other related field
  • 5+ years experience in human resources
  • PHR or SHRM-CP preferred
  • Understand and be comfortable with US employment law
  • Have exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Have excellent organizational skills
  • Can respond quickly and effectively to multiple priorities and situations
  • Have sound judgment and work well under pressure
  • Possess a positive and helpful attitude
  • Be detail-oriented and highly organized
  • Can work independently as well as part of a team
  • Experience in nonprofit management, higher education, or Christian higher education, strongly preferred
